Aftercare Advice

Taking care of your skin doesn’t just happen within the walls of our salon. It’s also important to look after your skin after you leave, so you can maintain and amplify the effects of your treatment. Which is why the correct aftercare is so important.

Your therapist will let you know the specific things you should do after your treatment, but below you’ll find a helpful guide so you know what to expect.

Permanent makeup and microblading

Permanent makeup and microblading is a specialised treatment that offers long-lasting colour and depth. Our team are highly trained and we use only the best equipment and pigment to make sure our clients get the best results possible.

Here are a few things to keep in mind after getting permanent makeup and microblading:

  • For the first few days, the colour will look darker than expected. This will fade as the skin heals.
  • Some itchiness and irritation is normal. Avoid scratching the area and contact us if you notice anything unusual.
  • Keep skin dry for two weeks to allow the pigment to settle under the skin. This means avoiding putting your head under the shower (or getting caught in the rain).
  • Follow your care routine for two weeks.
  • Day 1- Dip cotton pads in warm soapy water, squeeze excess water out and wipe over brows. Apply a thin amount of balm
  • Day 2-7- Wipe over brows morning and night, applying balm each time.
  • Lip blush treatment– If you have had a lip treatment, avoid eating salty or spicy foods for 5 days post-treatment. If you have ever suffered from cold sores, past or present, you must apply Zovirax 4 times a day for 5 days post procedure.
  • Eyeliner treatment – If you have had an eyeliner procedure, be aware that your eyelashes may stick together and eyelids may appear puffy the following day. Do not wear mascara for 1-week post-procedure.
  • Avoid heavy exercise for one week following treatment.
  • For the following two weeks, you should also avoid excessive heat, saunas, swimming, direct sunlight, sunbeds, saltwater, direct shower spray and jacuzzis.
  • Do not apply makeup, skin cream or ointments to the treated area for 2 weeks, other than what is recommended by your therapist.
  • Around 5-10 days post-treatment, the protective layer of skin will start to shed away and you may notice the colour being quite light. It will take around 4-6 weeks for this milky protective layer of skin to shed away, and a clear, healthy layer of skin to form with the pigment visible on the surface.
  • In order to keep your new permanent makeup in perfect condition, it is recommended you have a colour boost every 6-9 months or 9-18 months, depending on skin type, the method used and chosen colours. This will vary hugely from person to person.
  • To avoid pigment fade and colour change, we strongly recommend that you apply a broad spectrum SPF to your skin daily. Use sparingly any skincare or ointments which contain glycolic or fruity acids, as these will dramatically fade your pigment and could cause a colour change.
  • It is recommended that you continue with a maintenance procedure on your brows such as a shape and tint every couple of months to bring them back to life and have them looking their best at all times. Book your maintenance procedure

ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS

Anti-wrinkle injections help to minimise frown lines, crow’s feet and create younger-looking skin. There is little downtime involved but there are a few aftercare steps to follow to get the best results:

  • After you leave you should try to use the facial muscles more than usual. That means smile, frown and generally move the treated areas.
  • Keep upright for two hours following your treatment so the anti-wrinkle injections don’t settle.
  • Avoid applying any makeup for the rest of the day, unless it is mineral-based powder makeup.
  • For the following 48 hours, you should avoid alcohol, excessive sunlight and extreme heat such as a sauna, hot showers or strenuous exercise as this can increase discomfort and swelling.
  • You might experience some swelling and redness which should subside within the following hours. Some people experience light bruising, especially if we’ve treated a large area. You can take arnica tablets or apply a gel directly to the area.

DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal fillers are used to give your mouth a fuller, more sensuous shape. They can also be used to fill out lines and wrinkles around your mouth, eyes, and forehead. The treatment can last up to 12 months.

The dermal fillers we use contain hyaluronic acid or synthetic calcium hydroxylapatite in the case of Radiesse®, both of which are extremely safe and have a low incidence of an allergic reaction.

There is minimal downtime involved, but the steps below will help you get the best results:

  • Following your treatment, try not to touch the are for 6 hours to allow the swelling to subside.
  • We also recommend not applying makeup for the rest of the day, unless it is mineral-based.
  • For the next 48 hours, avoid exposure to UV and extreme heat such as a sauna, steam, sunbeds, hot showers and exercise, as this may increase discomfort and swelling.
  • You may have some swelling, redness and bruising which usually subsides within a few days. If necessary you can apply a cold compress to the skin – just don’t use anything too cold like an ice pack.

Alumier Skin Peel

AlumierMD Peel Treatments are the next generation of clinical exfoliation. With a variety of peels, each with a unique complex of ingredients, we can customise your program of treatments to target your specific skin concerns. Chemical peels vary in strength appropriate for particular skin types and individual problems. Stronger peels provide greater benefit however require longer recovery time.

  • On the evening following your treatment, do not cleanse your skin – instead, wait until the following day and use only the aftercare kit provided.
  • You may experience some redness which can last for up to 12 hours. Avoid applying ice water to the area.
  • Your skin will be sensitive to heat, so avoid hot showers, baths, sauna, steam exercise and swimming for 48 hours.
  • For the next 3-5 days, you may experience light to moderate flaking in some areas. This is normal; don’t pick or pull any flaking skin.
  • For the 7 days following your treatment do not have electrolysis, waxing, threading or any other form of hair removal.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat for the next week, and don’t tan or use a tanning booth for at least 14 days post-treatment.
  • Do not use facial scrubs or physical exfoliation for 14 days post peel, along with laser hair removal, chemical peels or microdermabrasion. You should also avoid using products containing retinoic acid, AHA and BHA.

Plasma Fibroblast treatment

The Plasma Fibroblast is a skin tightening treatment that is non-invasive and works to smooth and tighten the skin with results that last 2-3 years. Your therapist uses a handheld device to heat specific areas of the skin to cause the skin to lift and retract.

  • Swelling can last up to a week while redness can last approximately 2 weeks. Some people may experience reactions for up to 3-4 months. If redness persists, there are signs of infection, or the treatment area is sore, consult your practitioner. If any other side effects develop, report them to your therapist immediately.
  • After treatment, avoid all facial products other than those recommended by your practitioner until skin normalises as these may irritate the skin
  • Keep the treated area clean to minimise the risks of infection.
  • It is recommended that the use of soaps, other than those recommended by your practitioner, is restricted until the skin normalises. Where possible use only warm/tepid water for cleansing and do not scrub. Pat to dry only.
  • Do not use makeup of any kind up until any scabs have fallen off naturally and the area has recovered fully. The use of any type of makeup, while the area is still recovering, can increase the risk of scar formation and hyper or hypopigmentation.
  • Avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours after treatment
  • Avoid smoking, extreme sports and exercise for one day following treatment or until the skin has recovered.
  • Avoid any activity which may increase the risk of infection.
  • Avoid electrolysis, depilatory creams, waxing, and laser hair removal for a minimum of 14 days after treatment or until the area has healed.
  • Avoid the use of any plasters on the treated area.
  • Avoid freezing temperatures, saunas, and sun exposure, tanning products, or UV lamps/light for 6 weeks after treatment.
  • Refrain from touching or pulling at any flaking skin which may follow the treatment as this can cause an uneven result in pigmentation.
  • The effects of Plasma Treatment alongside peeling, Botox, laser or ultrasound-based treatments are unknown. For this reason, we recommend these treatments should be avoided for at least two months.
  • Drinking plenty of water and eating foods with vitamins A, C & E will greatly help the healing process. Rutin supplementation may help those with telangiectasia/thread veins. Supplementation with Alpha Lipoic Acid can help the skin overall.
  • Once the treated area has recovered make sure you apply a total sunscreen daily for up to 3 months – failure to do so can increase risks of hyperpigmentation. Supplementing with astaxanthin may help to avoid effects of sunlight/daylight on the skin.
  • There is a small risk of scarring, hyper- and hypopigmentation and other undesired effects. These risks are greatly increased if the aftercare instructions are not strictly adhered to.
  • Although the treatment is effective in most cases, you may require several treatments as suggested by your practitioner.

Dermaplaning and Million Dollar

Dermaplaning is a deep exfoliation treatment that gently removes dead skin cells and fine hair from the face using a surgical blade. As well as clearing skin and improving product absorption, the treatment also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and actively stimulates cell regeneration.

  • Your skin will be sensitive to heat, so avoid hot showers, baths, sauna, steam exercise and swimming for 48 hours.
  • Do not touch the skin unnecessarily for 24 hours and avoid picking any skin that may or may not shed for several days after your treatment.
  • Don’t apply makeup or cleanse the skin for the first 12 hours.
  • Avoid any products containing AHA’s, retinol, glycolic acid or exfoliators for 7 days.
  • Avoid sunbeds and sunbathing for up to 14 days following treatment. (Please consult your therapist)
  • Don’t use products containing perfume, essential oils, chemicals or fake tan for 2 – 3 days
  • Use SPF 30+ daily on any exposed skin.
  • Avoid facial waxing, laser hair removal, electrolysis or threading for 7 days after treatment.

Microneedling

Microneedling is a rejuvenating skin treatment that uses a special device containing tiny needles to create thousands of tiny microchannels in the skin. This stimulates the body’s natural healing process resulting in smoother, healthier, and younger-looking skin.

  • Microneedling may trigger a cold sore response so we recommend applying a topical treatment like Zovirax after treatment.
  • Wash your face thoroughly a few hours after treatment then gently massage the face with tepid water to remove all serum and other debris.
  • For the first 1-3 days the skin will be very dry and feel tight. You may also experience some like flaking. Don’t pick or pull at the skin.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat for 5-7 days.
  • Don’t tan or use a tanning booth for at least 14 days post-treatment.
  • Do not have electrolysis, waxing, threading or any other form of hair removal for 7 days.
  • Avoid facial scrubs or physical exfoliation for 14 days following the treatment.
  • Avoid products containing retinoic acid, AHA or BHA for 14 days.
  • Don’t have laser hair removal, chemical peels or microdermabrasion for 14 days.
  • Don’t apply ice water to the area.
  • Avoid hot tubs, steam rooms, saunas and/excessively hot baths or showers as well as swimming and exercise for 2 days.

Crystal Clear Micro-dermabrasion

Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion takes years off your complexion by gently exfoliating the outer layers of skin. You’ll see a difference in your skin after just one treatment. However, with regular treatments, the skin increases its collagen and elastin formation, giving you a naturally firmer and rejuvenated appearance.

  • Avoid any heat including the sunbed, sunbathing, hot baths and showers, saunas, exercise and swimming for 48 hours after treatment
  • Use SPF 30+ daily on any exposed skin.
  • Avoid touching the skin for 24 hours after a facial treatment
  • Don’t apply makeup or cleanse the skin for the first 12 hours.
  • Avoid products containing perfume, essential oils, chemicals or fake tan for 2-3 days.
  • Don’t use any products containing AHA’s, retinol, glycolic acid or exfoliators for 7 days after treatment.
  • Avoid facial waxing, laser hair removal, electrolysis or threading for 7 days after treatment.

Waxing

We choose to use the Lycon hot wax system for most wax treatments. The advantages of this are fewer ingrown hairs and longer regrowth periods. This hot wax is particularly recommended for sensitive areas as it promotes skin hydration.

  • Use the Lycon Ingrown-X-It Solution daily to reduce ingrown hairs. Alternately, exfoliate the area 4-7 days after treatment.
  • Don’t apply any perfumed products, deodorant or makeup on the waxed area for 12-24 hours to avoid irritation.
  • The treated area may feel sensitive for up to 24 hours following a wax. For this reason, we suggest avoiding hot showers, swimming, sunbathing, tanning and rubbing the skin.
  • For facial waxing, don’t use any products containing AHA’s, retinol or glycolic acid for the week after your treatment.
  • Don’t apply fake tan for 24-48 hours following a wax.

Russian or Individual lashes

With any lash treatment, it’s important to follow the aftercare advice to keep them looking great and avoid damaging your natural lash.

  • Keep your lashes dry for the first 48 hours. This means avoiding showers, steam, saunas, excessive sweating and swimming.
  • Make sure the lashes are not disturbed or manipulated into different positions by touching, rubbing or sleeping on them.
  • Your lash technician will give you a comb to use on your lashes daily.
  • Use oil-free products on or around the lash extension and don’t apply mascara to the extensions.
  • Use Nouveau Lash and Lid Cleanser to cleanse the lashes daily.
  • Don’t perm lashes or use lash curlers.
  • We’ll perform a patch test at least 24 hours before your lash treatment to check for irritation. Let us know if you experience any discomfort or redness around the eye.
