Aftercare Advice

Looking after your treatment area post-treatment is a vital part of ensuring that your results look as perfect as possible for as long as possible. Please read the following guidelines connected to each treatment we currently offer. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

PERMANENT MAKEUP AND MICROBLADING AFTERCARE

  • The scarily dark stage– Immediately after you have had your permanent makeup procedure, the colour will look quite dark. This is because you are seeing a surface colour that is sat on top of the skin. This is because a scab has started to form, which will make the colour appear darker and thicker.
  • Keeping them dry for 2 weeks– This is the one that seems to worry everybody when they’re told that they will need to keep their brows dry for 2 weeks. It isn’t as difficult as it sounds and is really important if you want to get the best out of your treatment. This will allow the pigment to fully settle under your skin.
  • Gently pat over brows –  dip some cotton pads into cooled, boiled water and ring them out so they are only ever so slightly damp. Then pat over each brow firmly in small sections. DO NOT WIPE. Repeat 3 times per day for 5 days.
  • Lip blush treatment– If you have had a lip blush treatment, avoid eating salty or spicy foods for 5 days post-treatment. If you have ever suffered from cold sores, past or present, you must apply Zovirax 4 times a day for 5 days post procedure.
  • Eyeliner treatment- If you have had an eyeliner procedure, please be aware that your eyelashes may stick together and eyelids may appear puffy the following day. Do not wear mascara for 1-week post-procedure.
  • Important things to avoid–
  1. No Itching or scratching the treatment area.
  2. Do not apply makeup for 2 weeks
  3. No heavy exercise for One-week post-treatment.
  4. Avoid any heat or steam
  5. Other things to avoid- For the next 2 weeks you must also avoid, saunas, swimming pools, direct sunlight, sunbeds, salt water, direct shower spray also Jacuzzis and any skin creams or ointments other than your balm.
  • Disappearing colour– Don’t panic! It’s completely normal. After around 5-10 day’s post-treatment, sometimes earlier than this, the protective layer of skin will start to shed away, along with any surface colour which at this stage will be very dark. You will now be left with what looks like little or no colour!
  • Patience– Now it’s just a case of being patient. It will take around 4-6 weeks for this milky protective layer of skin to shed away, and a clear, healthy, fully healed layer of skin to form over the implanted pigment and the pigment to be visible on the surface.
  • Long term
  • In order to keep your new permanent makeup in perfect condition, you are recommended to have a colour boost every 6-9 months or 9-18 months, depending on skin type, the method used and chosen colours, this will vary hugely from person to person
  • To avoid pigment fade and colour change, we strongly recommend that you apply a broad spectrum SPF to your brow daily.
  • It is recommended that you continue with a maintenance procedure on your brows such as a shape and tint every couple of months to bring them back to life and have them looking their best at all times.
  • You will not be eligible to donate blood for 4 month’s post-procedure.
  • Laser hair removal can fade and change the shape and shade of your brow treatment. And Botox may alter the position of your brows.
  • Avoid any skin care or ointments which contain glycolic or fruity acids long term, as these will dramatically fade your brows and could cause a colour change.
  • Be aware that Anti-wrinkle injections may change the position of your brows if this occurs, consult the practitioner that has performed your anti-wrinkle injections.
  • Symptoms you may expect to feel whilst healing–During the first week of your treatment, you may experience some dryness and itchiness in the treated area, swelling and redness, tenderness and flaking.

ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS

  • After a Botulinum toxin treatment, you may have some swelling, redness and bruising which will subside within the next few hours. Bruising may take a few days, especially if extensive. Arnica tablets/gel or vitamin k oxide cream can be used. A headache may occur after treatment and treated normally.
  • Results emerge gradually during 3- 14 days.
  • Remain upright for 2 hours.

  • Do not apply make up for approximately 6 hours unless it is mineral based.
  • You should avoid facial massages or electrical stimulation of the face for the next 2 weeks.
  • When cleansing, avoid pressure and gentle strokes away from the eyes.
  • Avoid wearing tight caps or garments in the area that has been injected.
  • For 48 hours you should avoid alcohol and exposure to UV and extreme heat i.e. sauna, steam, sun beds, very hot showers, strenuous exercise etc, as this may increase discomfort and swelling.
  • The initial effects will show in the first 2-5 days and continue to improve for 2 weeks.
  • Botulinum toxin usually lasts 3-4 months on average.

DERMAL FILLERS

  • You have undergone a dermal filler treatment where hyaluronic acid(or synthetic calcium hydroxylapatite in the case of Radiesse®) has been placed in the skin. You may have some swelling, redness and bruising which should subside within the next 1-14 days. Arnica tablets/gel or vitamin k oxide cream can be used.
  • It is advisable that you do not touch the area for 6 hours.
  • Do not apply make up for approximately 6 hours unless it is mineral based.
  • For 48 hours you should avoid exposure to UV and extreme heat i.e. sauna, steam, sun beds, very hot showers, strenuous exercise etc, as this may increase discomfort and swelling.
  • Avoid extreme cold, including ice packs that are directly applied to the skin.
  • If necessary you can apply a cool compress to the area to reduce any discomfort or swelling.
  • If you have had a local nerve infiltration injection please do not consume any hot or cold drinks until your sensation has returned to normal.
  • You must also be careful when eating so as to avoid biting your lip.
  • You should avoid facial massages or skin resurfacing until the area has healed fully.
  • If you experience any lumpiness in the implantation area, it can be gently massaged to help smooth it out.
  • You should see the effects immediately, although the final results will become clear once any swelling has gone down.
  • Our most commonly used dermal filler lasts 6-9 months on average. Radiesse® and Volume products last for 12 – 18 months on average. When to seek urgent review: Allergy or infections can occur but are thankfully are extremely uncommon. If you get a painful or itchy bump or swelling near an injection site please contact the office immediately for a review.

Plasma energy treatment

  • Swelling can last up to a week, redness can last approximately 2 weeks, however, some people may react differently and may experience reactions for up to 3-4 months. If redness persists, there are signs of infection, or the part is sore consult your practitioner. If any other side effects develop, report them to practitioner immediately.
  • After treatment, avoid all facial products, other than those recommended by your practitioner, until skin normalises as these may irritate the skin
  • It is your responsibility to keep the treated area clean and minimise the risks of infection.
  • It is recommended that the use of soaps, other than those recommended by your practitioner, on the treated skin area is restricted until the skin normalises and where possible warm/tepid water is used for cleansing. Do not scrub. Pat to dry only.
  • Do not use makeup of any kind up until the scabs (which may form) have fallen off by themselves and the area has recovered fully. The use of any type of makeup, while the area is still recovering, can increase the risks of scar formation and hyper or hypopigmentation.
  • Avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours after treatment
  • Avoid smoking, extreme sports and exercise for one day following treatment or until the part/s treated have fully recovered.
  • Avoid any activity which may increase the risks of infection.

  • Avoid freezing temperatures, saunas, and sun exposure, tanning products, or UV lamps/light for 6 weeks after treatment.

  • Effects of the Plasma Treatment for simultaneous use with peeling, botulinum toxin (botox), laser, or ultrasound based treatments in the same area is unknown and should be avoided for at least two months after the last treatment.
  • Drinking plenty of water and eating foods with vitamins A, C & E will greatly help the healing process. Rutin supplementation may help those with telangectasia/thread veins. Supplementation with Alpha Lipoic Acid can help the skin overall.
  • Once the area treated has recovered, apply total sunscreen daily for up to 3 months after the last treatment – failure to do so can increase risks of hyperpigmentation. Supplementing with astaxanthin may help to avoid effects of sunlight/daylight on the skin.
  • There is small risk of scarring, hyper and hypo pigmentation and other undesired effects, however these risks are greatly increased if the aftercare instructions are not strictly adhered to.
