Alumier MD Chemical Peels FAQ’s Answered!

AlumierMD Chemical Peel FAQ’s answered

1. What is a Chemical Peel?

”Chemical peels are able to help treat concerns such as pigmentation, acne, and aging skin, by increasing cell turnover and bringing newer skin cells to the surface. Applying chemical peels to your face allows professionals to provide your skin with the necessary actives that your skin requires to leave it feeling and looking youthful and smooth.”

2. Will AlumierMD chemical peels cause unsightly redness and peeling?

Post-treatment peeling is often similar to peeling after a tan. In some cases, exfoliation occurs on a cellular level and is not apparent to the naked eye. The exfoliation you will experience varies depending on skin profile. AlumierMD chemical peels are light- to medium depth, and are formulated to reduce irritation and redness.

3. What can I expect straight after a chemical peel?

The skin is initially tender and more sun-sensitive as the epidermis renews itself. After the peeling takes its course (usually 3-5 days after treatment), fresh new skin emerges and ingredients in homecare products start to work more effectively.

4. Where can I have a chemical peel?

Chemical peels are usually performed on the face, but may also be used on the neck, décolleté and hands.

5. How can they benefit me?

Peel treatments improve skin texture and firmness, decreasing fine lines and wrinkles. Peels also even out skin tone, improve acne-prone skin and reduce pore size appearance.’

LOVE THE SKIN YOU’RE IN

 Image skincare- clear cell

How I managed to get clear skin for the first time in my life- this is what worked for me.

I had suffered with oily and acne prone skin from the age of 18 until the age of 28

and I remember it really got me down at times. My skin was so oily and shiny all of the time, to the point that I didn’t dare wear a moisturiser as it felt far too heavy mixed with the amount of oil I was already producing. But I knew I was getting older and needed to start wearing moisturiser as my skin was dehydrated. I was clueless as to what to do to combat this, and had tried so many expensive products on the market.

Along with being slightly lazy when it comes to my skincare routine, and never fully having faith in the products I was using, I opted to stick to using gentle face wipes to remove my makeup and only using water to wash my face with, in fear of causing any further breakouts.

Until I came across Image skincare!

This came about around 4 years ago, when I went on a training course to further my journey into the aesthetics side of the beauty industry. I had no intention of finding a new skincare product, and in fact, was extremely sceptical about the whole course before I got there. I had never, until that point believed that you could change your skin from what you put on it, I thought I was just born with bad skin.

The training course was incredible! A real eye opener for me, and I learnt so much about skin over those few days. Everything I learnt about skin was so interesting, and for the first time ever, made a lot of sense to me.One of the main things that I learnt, was that there are 3 different levels of skincare, cosmetic, cosmeceutical and pharmaceutical.
Pharmaceuticalproducts require a medical prescription due to the side effects that these products can cause.
Cosmeticsare the products that we can buy over the counter. Because consumers can “self diagnose” and choose a skincare product that’s easily accessible from a department store, or chemist, they need to be made safe, resulting in the fact that they contain little or no amount of ‘active ingredients’. So they will feel and smell good, but won’t have a deep affect on the skin or skin health.
Cosmeceuticals (this is the category that Image skincare products fall into)- bridge the gap between cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. In order for a product to be classed as a cosmeceutical, it must have scientifically proven levels of concentrations that have an effect on the skin. The ingredients must also be in a delivery system that ensures the active ingredients can penetrate the skin, which means, they have the ability to bring about real visible changes in the skins structure. Cosmeceuticals are real, results driven products, ad although they often smell and feel great too, their main focus is to correct skin complaints and produce the results we are looking for.

So with this new found knowledge, and after trying a chemical peel on the day to which I had no reaction whatsoever ( after leaving it on for 10 minutes) due to my skin being so clogged up through years of using the wrong type of skincare (the chemical peel could not penetrate through the top surface of my skin) … I decided I would give these products a chance! And I was excited to see the results.

I decided to choose the Clear Cell cleanser and the Prevention Plus moisturiser to begin with.

As I knew how rubbish I was at sticking to a lengthy regime, I thought this would be simple enough to follow. Luckily, the clear cell cleanser contains Salicylic acid, which works as a liquid exfoliator, as well as having its own built in toner, so I figured I was doing 3 steps of my routine in one hit, bonus! I was wary of the moisturiser as this was the first time I had ever used one, but chose the Matt SPF 30 version, to help keep shine to a minimum. (this moisturiser also contains zinc oxide, which I later found out is the essential ingredient to protect your skin from premature ageing)

After 2 weeks, my skin was already starting to feel better.

I had experienced a bit of a breakout at first. This was caused by the active ingredients getting to work on a deeper level, and de-clogging my pores, pushing all of the buildup of dirt up to the surface. It’s also common to experience some initial dryness with this product, as the liquid exfoliator (salicylic acid) helps to shed layers of dead skin that had been building up.
I decided to try another chemical peel, to test out my trainer’s theory that my skin had been too clogged for the peel to penetrate my skin the first time I had one. I couldn’t even leave it on longer that 2 minutes! (I’d managed over 10 minutes the first time) I experienced the tingling sensation immediately, which was all the evidence I needed that my skin was thoroughly de-clogged, giving me the motivation to carry on using my products.

Within 4 weeks, my skin was totally clear!

Breakouts had stopped occurring, it wasn’t dry, but I had become addicted to using the moisturiser and wouldn’t go a day without it. My makeup was going on so much nicer, and I had finally got a handle on my skincare routine. Only using a cleanser and a moisturiser, I found it incredibly easy to stick to, and have been converted ever since.

I can honestly say, in the last 4 years, since using these products, I haven’t had 1 single breakout.

And  I often have comments made on how clear my skin is. As the structure of my skin has changed, and I no longer produce excessive levels of oil, I have been able to switch to the ‘Max’ range, which targets the prevention of ageing, and have added some serums and an eye cream into my routine (when I remember to use them)

These products have made such a huge difference to my skin and my confidence, and I hope they can work for you too. If you have any questions about our chosen product range ‘Image skincare’ feel free to call our salon or comment below. We look forward to helping you and your skin 🙂

This miracle product not only protects you from the sun making it perfect for holidays as well as every day use, but it also has a gorgeous light coverage making it the perfect product for anyone who doesn’t like to wear heavy make up. We also love it for the gym on days when we don’t feel like going fully fresh faced! Its amazing properties mean it causes no harm to the skin, (you can even sleep in it!) and won’t block your pores even if your sweating away on the treadmill. It makes the perfect primer for under your foundation, we’ve found it makes your foundation last much longer and is brilliant for blending those annoying foundation lines!!

All of the Prevention Plus moisturisers contain Zinc Oxide, which is one of the only ingredients that will fully protect your skin from ageing. It protects against both UVA and UVB and is in our opinion, the only type of protection we would use to protect our delicate skin.

Lightening Peel product review

Image skincare

Lightening peel, to reduce pigmentation and age spots

I’ve had an amazing 10 years living and travelling in the sun but it’s taking its toll on my skin and I have mild sun damage as a result. I have always used SPF but would only apply once a day! it’s difficult to re-apply when you’re working or having fun in the sun. I was young, free and living in the sun reapplying sunscreen throughout the day was the last thing on my mind.

So who is is for-

Anyone with pigmentation, sun damage, uneven skin tone, generally wanting brighter skin.

My personal experience with the peel treatment

This is the only peel that I have come across that is in a carrier base of Organic Aloe Vera, so while you’re peeling your healing!
Aloe Vera cools, calms, and hydrates the skin while the blend of kojic and lactic acid deeply exfoliate breaking down pigmentation, lightening pigmentation, brightening the whole face leaving even, glowing skin tone.

What to expect during the treatment

Cleanse to clean the skin thoroughly.
Exfoliation to remove any surface dead skin cells.
Degrease the skin of any surface oil to allow deeper penetration of the peel.
The peel is then applied and left on for 2 to 7 minutes (during this phase you will experience some tingling, some people have said it’s like an itching sensation)
I then remove the peel until zero activity with cooling face towels.
A vitamin c face mask is applied and a hand and arm massage is performed.
Mask is removed and after care products applied.
Home care samples will be given for the week after the peel.

Results:

My skin was slightly dry for 2 to 5 days afterwards but nothing that a little extra moisturiser didn’t solve. I had no actual peeling. The aloe makes a huge difference. I had peels when I was younger when I had severe acne and would shed layers of skin.
My skin for weeks after was flawless, my pores were tighter and clean, my skin tone even and glowing, pigmentation marks were softer and I would say ever so slightly lighter. I was super happy with the results and will continue having peels to help correct my sun damage and pigmentation.

We would recommend for best results, a course of six treatments at two week intervals. It’s also brilliant as a one off to lighten, brighten, and even skin tone.

I hope you enjoyed learning about this peel, and if you have any questions regarding any of the peels, feel free to leave a comment below

Keep Calm and love your skin

Our Top 10 Tips for healthy, glowing skin

We get asked a lot in salon what our top tips would be to keeping your skin clear and healthy. Whilst we love the product range we use in salon, as it contains a high level of active ingredients that really get to work on your skin, correcting any imbalances that may be causing a breakout, we also have some good old fashioned tips that will help you achieve that glowing complexion, and most don’t cost a penny. So here are the ultimate rules we like to follow….

Sunscreen- a girls’ best friend

90% of wrinkles are caused by sun damage, and as we know, prevention is much better than cure. When choosing a sunscreen, be sure to check the ingredients and invest in one that contains zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These ingredients act as a mirror on the skin, allowing the harmful UVA and UVB rays to bounce of your skin before penetration. They are far superior to any chemical sunscreen that works by soaking into your skin and blocking harmful rays from underneath the surface. Be sure to use your sunscreen daily, even through the winter months for maximum protection. We recommend investing in a daily moisturiser with SPF30 or above which contains zinc oxide. We like to use any product from the use Image prevention plus range.

Drink your 8 glasses of water daily

We know this is easier said than done, but water really is vital for clear skin. It prevents dehydration which can cause premature ageing, and clears toxins that cause inflammation and blemishes. If drinking water is a struggle, you could always try adding some flavour such as lemon, limes and grapefruit for an added energy boost or chamomile for soothing effects. One glass of warm water first thing in the morning is a great way to kick start your day.

Exfoliate without scrubbing

As we get older, our natural enzymes in our skin work less effectively at removing dead skin cells, resulting in dull, grey skin. You can speed up the cell turnover making your skin appear smoother by adding AHA’s or a glycolic cleanser into your regime. However, be aware of products which don’t contain a high enough concentration of ingredients due to the laws on active ingredients in products sold over the counter, these could be a waste of money. You will want to look for a product which contains around 8%. Expect some initial stinging and dryness at first, whilst your skin gets used to the product. We love Image ‘Clear Cell’ salicylic cleanser and Image ‘Ageless’ glycolic cleanser.

Have patience with your skincare products

Be patient with your products. We’re all guilty of being in a hurry to see instant results from our new products. But patience is the key. It takes around 6 weeks for a new product to get to work and change the structure of your skin. It’s also always a good idea to start by using new lotions and potions only once every other day, whilst your skin gets used to them. Especially when using a good quality product that contains a high level of active ingredients.

Clean your makeup brushes regularly

You should be cleaning your makeup brushes around 2-3 times per week ideally. Our brushes collect dirt and bacteria which can cause breakouts.

Cleanse your makeup of before bed

Cleansing your makeup off as part of your bedtime routine, not only leaves you feeling fresh and saves your pillow cases from gathering bacteria, but it also prevents a build up of dirt and bacteria on the skin, which can clog pores and cause excessive dryness.

Get your beauty sleep

If you’re lucky enough to be able to get your 8 hours in, your skin will benefit greatly. Sleep deprivation lowers circulation, making your skin look pale, grey and washed out. Our bodies do most of it’s repairing whilst we sleep so when we’re catching up on our z’s, this will be the best time to rejuvenate our skin. Applying products before bed is also the best time for them to really get to work.

Avoid hot water

If you suffer from red, ruddy skin, try avoiding very hot baths and showers first thing in the morning. The hot water strips essential oils and aggravates capillaries, creating redness. The older we get, the longer it takes for our skin to return to normal and not look ruddy. When you cleanse your face, be sure to use luke warm water to prevent redness.

Drop dairy

If you suffer from oily skin, it would be a good idea to try cutting out dairy from your diet. Even organic milk contains cow hormones which stimulate oil glands and pores, which can lead to acne. If you must drink milk, then skimmed milk is the best option, as the hormones are concentrated in the full fat kind.

Eat your greens

Eating vegetables or salads which contain a high level of antioxidants and vitamin C, such as spinach and broccoli will help clear skin of free radicals that cause wrinkles and sagging. So make sure you add at least 2 portions of fruit and veg to your diet daily.
