MEDICAL TATTOOING FACT SHEET

Nipple and Areola tattooing

What is nipple and areola tattooing?

This treatment is for women who have undergone mastectomies, other breast surgery or for women who want to recolour or correct symmetry. Pigment is implanted under into the epidermis to achieve a 3 dimensional semi permanent result to restore the natural beauty of your breasts so you can regain confidence in your own femininity.
It can be performed by your surgeon after having had a mastectomy, or you can opt to have this treatment performed by a micropigmentation specialist or permanent makeup artist.

What look can I achieve with this treatment?

We can create a 3 dimensional result using various shading techniques and mix colours to match an existing breast or create your desired colour if a double mastectomy has been performed. You may wish to bring photos of your breasts before surgery from your surgeon or any pictures of looks you would like to achieve.

When is a suitable time frame to have this treatment?

At least 12 months’ post surgery is required to ensure all scarring has settled. We will also require a Doctor’s note from your oncologist to confirm you have reached the end of your treatment plan and no further surgery will be taking place.

Will I get to see the design before you start?

Rebecca will go through a detailed consultation and use pencils to draw the desired look of your nipple and areola before starting the procedure. Colours are chosen and measuring techniques are performed to ensure symmetry. She will then tattoo directly over the top of your chosen template.

How long will the treatment take?

This procedure can take up to 3 hours depending on the amount of work involved. A further retouch appointment will be needed 6 weeks post treatment which will take around an hour and a half.

Why will I need a retouch visit?

A retouch is needed to achieve the perfect colour. Some pigment can be lost during the healing process, so the retouch is required to correct any imperfections caused during this healing process.

Does it hurt?

Topical anaesthetics are applied during the treatment, making it relatively pain free. However sensitivity can vary from person to person.

How long will it last?

The longevity of results can vary, however results can last up to 3 years and colour boost procedures are recommended every 18 months to 3 years.

How do I go about booking and will I need a consultation?

Scar reduction- Micro-needling

What is micro-needling for scar reduction?

Micro-needling is a minimally invasive skin-rejuvenating procedure that involves using a collection of very fine needles to puncture the skin, creating a controlled skin injury to the effected area. This encourages your body to produce new collagen and elastin, improving skin texture and firmness, reducing the appearance of scars, minimising pores and stretch marks.

What kind of results can I expect from this treatment?

Results can vary hugely from person to person. This treatment will not fully eliminate scars, but can reduce the appearance dramatically.

When can I have this treatment?

Scars must be at least 12 months old and fully settled with no redness.

How many treatments will I need?

Again, this can vary depending on the depth and texture of the scar. Most scars and stretch marks will require between 5 and 6 treatments for optimum results. Treatments must be spaced 6 weeks apart.

Does it hurt?

Topical anaesthetics are used during the treatment to make it relatively pain free, however sensitivity can vary from person to person.

What does the aftercare entail?

There is very little downtime or aftercare involved with this treatment. The area must be kept clean whilst healing and sunbeds or sun exposure is to be avoided for 1-week post treatment.
