Microblading FAQ’s – Permanent Makeup FAQ’s – If you are reading this, you have taken your first step to achieving your perfect brows. I’m sure you have so many questions to ask.
I understand how important it is that you do your research when choosing to have a permanent makeup procedure. Therefore, decided to help take the stress out of it for you. Here is a list of frequently asked questions and my responses.

What is Microblading?
Microblading, otherwise known as the hand tool method, is a semi-permanent eyebrow procedure which originated in Asia and is fast becoming the treatment of choice in brow design for men and women across the UK.
The hand tool method differs only from conventional ‘permanent makeup’ by the very fact that it is a manual procedure. Using a hand tool with a collection of between 8 to 14 very fine needles side by side, delicate fine channels or incisions are made in the skin in the shape of a natural hair. Your chosen colour of pigment is then deposited into these channels, matching in with your natural hair colour. Once healed, the pigment will lay under the surface of the skin, creating a fuller shape for your brows.
What look can I achieve with Microblading?
This procedure creates very natural results which enhance and perfect your natural brow. Creating the perfect shape to frame your eyes.
It will not replace a heavy pencil look. Microblading creates a beautifully natural result that you can wake up with every morning. As well as a perfect guide to follow with your pencil or powder if you are wanting a stronger look. As an artist, I will advise you on the perfect shape and colour to suit your individual needs. Working closely with you to choose the most flattering look for your facial features.

What is Permanent Makeup?
Permanent Makeup, otherwise known as the machine or digital method, is a permanent eyebrow procedure which has been a popular treatment used for many years.
The pigment is deposited into the epidermis. Using a specialised tattoo machine and needle designed to work on delicate areas of skin such as the skin on our brow area. This method differs to Microblading, as it deposits more colour into one area, causing it to last longer and can appear darker and fuller.
What look can I achieve with the machine method?
This method can achieve the perfect Ombre brow, powder brow or hair stroke pattern. A stronger look can be created with the digital machine. Alternatively, a soft hue of colour looks beautiful. Creating perfect symmetry and hassle-free brows.

Microblading or Permanent Makeup?
Choosing between Microblading or Permanent Makeup doesn’t need to be a difficult decision. It is down to your technician to guide you and advise which treatment will be best for your eyebrows. A combination of both methods may be required for the best results. This will depend on your natural brow as well as
Can I have Permanent Makeup if I already have my eyebrows Microbladed?
It is possible to work over an existing tattoo. However, this will depend hugely on the existing work. If the shape is uneven it is sometimes more difficult to correct. If they are quite a strong block look, it is advised to fade out the existing work before implanting more pigment. Please enquire about our removal techniques.

How long does Permanent Makeup last?
Advances in the market have seen results lasting 2-3 years before a retouch is required.
Does Permanent Makeup last longer than Microblading?
The Microblading method is particularly fine so may fade out quicker. However, if this is the look you are wanting to achieve, it is good to be aware that you may want this type of brow procedure topping up more regularly for optimum results.
Can I have Permanent Makeup or Microblading whilst pregnant?
We are not able to perform Permanent Makeup or Microblading whilst pregnant or breastfeeding. It is advised to leave at least 8 weeks after pregnancy or breastfeeding to allow time for your hormones to settle down.
Is Permanent Makeup painful?
Permanent Makeup is relatively pain-free. Topical anaesthetics are used throughout the procedure to keep pain to a minimum. Most clients compare the first part of the treatment to threading or tweezing. Once the anaesthetic has got to work during the treatment clients can find the treatment quite relaxing and often fall asleep.
How long does Permanent Makeup take?
Your first treatment will take around 2 hours from start to finish including numbing time. As well as a thorough consultation to choose your shape and colour. You will then return 6 weeks later for your second retouch appointment which will take around an hour. This retouch appointment is included in the price quoted and it is extremely important that you return for this visit.
Why do you need a retouch visit?
The first session is to design your brows and deposit the first coat of pigment under the skin. Upon leaving, brows will look perfect, however, they will heal light and could be patchy after the first session. Just like painting a wall, after the second session, the brows really come to life. This second treatment is to perfect the shape and colour.
Patience is key! Your brows will last a lifetime. It’s important that your technician has the freedom to gradually build the colour and perfect your brows over a series of sessions.
We recommend that you allow plenty of time to have your brows completed if you are wanting to have them done in time for any big event.
Permanent Makeup Aftercare.
Immediately after, your brows could feel quite prominent. They can look warm in colour when they are first finished, but the cooler cools off when healed.
Most clients experience very little redness or swelling and feel fine to go about their usual routine straight away.
The following day, brows will look slightly darker.
Brows should be cleansed daily, and a small amount of healing balm applied. This prevents a scab from forming.
During the first 2 weeks, you will need to
- avoid getting your brows soaking wet
- avoid any direct sunlight heat or steam, chlorine
- avoid any excessive exercise.
The same rules apply after your retouch visit. So be sure to avoid any holidays, spa days etc. for the 2 weeks post-treatment.
Do you still need to wax and tint after Permanent Makeup?
It is recommended that you keep up with a regular maintenance procedure which will keep your brows looking at their best at all times.
This can be done by your current technician or with one of our specialist brow technicians at Rebecca Jaynes. This includes a wax or thread and tint. Because the pigment is implanted underneath your skin and not on top of your skin, it does not colour your natural brow hair.
If you have opted for your colour to be slightly darker than your natural brow, you will need to continue to tint your own brow hair in order to keep your colour looking at its best at all times. However, you will be able to go much longer between visits, 8-10 weeks would be adequate.
You may also want to apply pencil or powder over your new brows depending on your everyday makeup routine.

Do I need a patch test for Permanent Makeup?
Yes, a patch test is required 24 hours prior to appointment. This can be sent out in the post.
