Everything you need to know about ombrè powder brows

permanent makeup- eyebrow tattoo

There’s no doubt fluffy, natural brows are having a moment. Forget the pencil-thin, overplucked brows of the 90s. Now it’s about embracing a fuller look that enhances your appearance. Introducing, Ombré Powder brows.

Between powders, pencils, tints and permanent makeup, there are so many options to help you get the perfect brows. One thing we’re loving right now is ombrè powder brows. This amazing new brow shaping technique gives effortlessly full and natural brows with just enough definition to give you that polished look. All while saving you precious prep time in the morning.

What are ombrè powder brows?

Ombrè powder brows are a type of semi-permanent makeup technique, similar to microblading. Using a specialised machine, hundreds of tiny dots of pigment are placed under the skin. The effect is a soft yet full finish that looks like you’ve filled in your brows with powder – without spending all that time in the mirror each morning.

Powder brows vs microblading

In many ways, powder brows and microblading are similar. Both use a semi-permanent makeup technique to give long-lasting results.

Microblading is done with a very fine hand-held tool to create strokes of colour that mimic eyebrow hairs. It’s ideal for filling-out existing brows and creating volume.

Powdered brows give a softer, more natural look. It’s more defined than microblading and is ideal for creating depth and adding colour. But you don’t actually have to choose. Both methods can be combined to create a custom look, fill in gaps, and add volume.

Are ombrè powder brows right for me?

If you’re after a bold, full brow, while cutting down your time spent getting ready in the morning, then ombrè powder brows may be perfect for you.

If you’re considering powder brows (or any permanent makeup for that matter) it’s good to do a bit of research first. Take a look at lots of before-and-after images of brows to see if you actually like the look of filled in brows (we have lots of images on our Instagram).

It’s also good to gather some brow-spiration of what you’d like to achieve. You can show these to your specialist to help guide them in creating your brows.

How to get ombrè powder brows?

The procedure itself is pretty simple but the whole process can take up to two hours. First, our resident brow specialist will sit down with you to assess your face shape and discuss your ideal brow look.

Before your treatment, we’ll apply an anaesthetic to the area to numb the skin before marking out the brow shape to make sure you’re totally happy with the placement and look. After this, we will begin applying the pigment to the brows, stopping regularly to check that everything looks good, while you lie there and relax.

Things to know before you go

There are a few things to know before you turn up at your appointment. You’ll need to take care of your skin in the weeks prior by avoiding excessive sunlight or tanning beds, and some types of skincare and other treatments. You’ll also want to stay off the alcohol and avoid certain medication for 48 hours beforehand. Retinol is a big no no for at least 6 weeks prior to having your brows tattooed or microbladed. It’s important not to use it anywhere on the face as retinol get’s into the blood stream and travels to other areas of the face such as the brows.

After your treatment, you’ll have to carefully follow the aftercare information to get the best results. This includes avoiding getting your brows wet for two weeks so the pigment can settle

under the skin. This might sound difficult, but your technician will give you tips so you can still shower and clean your face while keeping your brows dry.

We’ve got more on the pre-treatment and aftercare on our website. {link to these pages}

How long will my brows last?

Once you’ve gone through all that to get gorgeous brows, you want to know that they’re going to last. What’s great about the powder brow technique is that they actually last a relatively long time.

Because the pigment is placed deeper in the skin, it takes longer to wear and fade, compared to microblading. In fact, you can expect your powder brows to last from one to three years (yes, that’s years). All you need is an annual touch up to keep them looking on point.

Where to go for ombrè powder brows?

Trusting someone with your brows is a big deal – we’ve all seen the results of a bad brow job online. Rebecca, our resident permanent makeup specialist, has trained with Nouveau Contour, the leaders in permanent makeup, and worked as a trainer for Karen Betts and Nouveau Beauty Group for many years. She has performed hundreds of brow treatments, working with all types of clients to help them achieve flawless brows.

What is Scalp Micropigmentation?

Man with thinning hair

SMP, Scalp Micropigmentation, aka Hair tattooing? It’s a highly advanced method of cosmetic tattooing.

As Wikipedia explains-

‘A hair tattoo, or Scalp Micropigmentation, is a cosmetic tattoo that gives the illusion of a close buzz cut hairstyle on a bald head. We can also use this treatment to conceal the scars from hair transplantation or to make thinning hair seem thicker’.

In this post, I’ll explain more about the treatment and about who can benefit from it. As well as the treatment process itself. I’ll also be answering a few of the most frequently asked questions.

Scalp Micropigmentation in a little more detail

Scalp Micropigmentation
Scalp Micropigmentation

Scalp Micropigmentation, a non-invasive treatment for people who are balding, thinning or have a receding hairline. A Carbon based Pigment gets implanted into the dermal layer of the skin using a digital permanent makeup machine with a microneedle, similar to a tattoo machine.

A tiny wound in the skin where the pigment is placed creates the appearance of hair follicles in the scalp. Each tiny wound heals over retaining a portion of the pigment. Over time, the pigment is attacked by the body’s immune system, causing it to eventually fade out.

Who would benefit from a Scalp Micropigmentation Procedure?

Hair loss is an age-old problem that affects many men and women, for that matter. In fact, one study showed moderate to extensive hair loss in 42% of men between the age of 18-49.  While it’s true that hair loss increases with age, it can come earlier in life for many men – particularly those who suffer from male pattern baldness.

As a result, many men and women can benefit from SMP. First and foremost, men who have completely lost all of their hair can benefit from a full head treatment. Or it can be used to disguise receding hairlines by restoring the natural position of the hairline. It can also be used to cover thinning patches in the hair by colouring the scalp underneath the affected area creating a fuller appearance. As well as camouflaging hair transplant scars or other scars on the scalp.

SMP – Scalp Micropigmentation treatment process

The Consultation phase of a treatment would include a 30-minute consultation. To discuss your individual needs and requirements. During this consultation, a design can be discussed and colours may be chosen. You will also get the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have about the treatment. There is usually a 4-8 week waiting period for an appointment slot to come available. During this time, you have the opportunity to look at different types or hairlines and do some research to help you to decide how you would like yours to look.

Treatment 1 is the next phase, where the first layer of pigment is implanted. Starting off with a lighter colour and leaving larger gaps between each dot to allow for when the pigment to spread a little during the healing phase. Depending on how big an area is to be treated, this process may take up to 4 hours.

Treatment 2, 4-6 weeks later, during another 4hour session, the second layer of pigment can be implanted. A darker colour is used this time, and extra dots are placed in between the original healed colour. This will start to add an extra dimension to the scalp and add to the natural appearance.

The Final Treatment is required 4-6 weeks later to make any final tweaks needed and fill any obvious gaps. The hairline can be feathered out if needed and the look is perfected.

So, now you know what Scalp Micropigmentation is.

And I’m sure you have many more questions. There are many more questions we get asked on a regular basis. A few too many to list in this post, such as Does it hurt? How long does it take to heal? What will I have to do in terms of Aftercare? Will my hair continue to grow? Etc

So here is a handy link to follow to find the answers to all of our Frequently Asked Questions.

To Summarise

In this post, I have discussed what Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) actually is and how it works. Along with a list of who would benefit from it and a brief explanation of what you can expect to happen during each phase of your treatment. Please follow our Facebook and Instagram page for our Before and After results of this treatment. And feel free to comment on this blog post if you have any further questions.

SKINCARE TREATMENT – WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?

”Chemical peels are able to help treat concerns such as pigmentation, acne, and aging skin, by increasing cell turnover and bringing newer skin cells to the surface. Applying chemical peels to your face allows professionals to provide your skin with the necessary actives that your skin requires to leave it feeling and looking youthful and smooth.”

WILL ALUMIER MD CHEMICAL PEELS CAUSE UNSIGHTLY REDNESS AND PEELING?

Post-treatment peeling is often similar to peeling after a tan. In some cases, exfoliation occurs on a cellular level and is not apparent to the naked eye. The exfoliation you will experience varies depending on skin profile. AlumierMD chemical peels are light- to medium depth, and are formulated to reduce irritation and redness.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT STRAIGHT AFTER A CHEMICAL PEEL?

The skin is initially tender and more sun-sensitive as the epidermis renews itself. After the peeling takes its course (usually 3-5 days after treatment), fresh new skin emerges and ingredients in homecare products start to work more effectively.

WHERE CAN I HAVE A CHEMICAL PEEL?

Chemical peels are usually performed on the face, but may also be used on the neck, décolleté and hands.

HOW CAN THEY BENEFIT ME?

Peel treatments improve skin texture and firmness, decreasing fine lines and wrinkles. Peels also even out skin tone, improve acne-prone skin and reduce pore size appearance.’

AlumierMD was developed by a global team of scientists, dermatologists and leading industry professionals. Through advanced propriety chemistry, AlumierMD has optimised the bioavailability of each molecule in the ingredients they use. As a result, their scientific formulations deliver real results.

Why choose Plasma Fibroblast?

Why choose Plasma Fibroblast?

The Plasma Fibroblast skin tightening treatment is the newest lift procedure causing a stir in the beauty industry. It is a non-invasive, non-surgical lift procedure, used to smooth and tighten the skin with results lasting 2-3 years.

As we get older our skin starts to lack its collagen and elastin causing our skin to appear and feel less plumped. Because of this, our skin starts to lose its elasticity and over time little wrinkles start to appear in the places we wish weren’t so visible! But of course its all the effects of ageing which not one of us can stop! However, there are ways we can prolong and reduce this process as if they were never there in the first place!

Plasma Fibroblast?

The Plasma Fibroblast skin tightening treatment is the newest lift procedure causing a stir in the beauty industry. It is a non-invasive, non-surgical lift procedure, used to smooth and tighten the skin with results lasting 2-3 years.

Our therapist Loren Abram uses a handheld device to heat specific areas of the skin causing the skin to lift and retract, which shrinks the excess skin, bags and wrinkles resulting in a smoother appearance.

We are seeing amazing results with this treatment and is a fantastic alternative to cosmetic surgery.

Plasma Fibroblast Treatment Information

1-3 sessions are required for optimum results. Each treatment takes around 30 minutes to perform and we require 6 weeks in between each session.

4 weeks after your first session, we will invite you back for a checkup consultation, where your therapist can discuss with you and assess whether you require any further sessions.

The treatment can be uncomfortable although numbing creams are applied to ensure our clients are kept as comfortable as possible throughout the treatment. However, experiences may differ due to many different factors, client pain threshold, area to be treated etc.

The day after your appointment you may experience swelling and redness in the treated area. We recommend avoiding any social events for at least a week post procedure. Your final results will be visible after 14 days.

Is there any reason I would be unsuitable for this treatment?

We cannot treat clients who are…

  • pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have a pacemaker
  • Have uncontrolled diabetes

There are other illnesses and medications that can limit treatment, but this is discussed in consultation and may just mean that you need to provide a doctor’s note to be eligible.

Perfecting your Eyebrows- How do I know which Brow treatment is right for me?

Natural looking brows

The beauty industry has had a huge focus on Eyebrows over the last 5-10 years, and it’s no surprise why!

If the eyes are the window to the then eyebrows are the frame–that’s why they should be well looked after and groomed! Enhancing your brows, even just a tiny bit, can pull together an entire makeup look and change your face completely.

But with lots of different brow treatments now on the market, it can be overwhelming to figure out which one is right for you. Should you have a regular shape and tint, or HD Brows? And what is this new Henna Brow treatment everyone is talking about?

It’s important to remember that different brow treatments will give you a different look—and whilst one particular brow treatment can work wonders for another person’s eyebrows, it might not necessarily do the same for yours.

So here is a little explanation of each treatment on the market and who they would be most suitable for! If you’re still confused after reading this, don’t worry… our therapists will be able to give you all the help and advice that you need.

The classic stand-alone eyebrow tint:

Lasts- 4-6 week
Treatment time- 15 minutes
Cost- £10
Minimum age- 16
Patch test required- yes

A coloured dye is placed over the natural hair to enhance the colour. Tint colours range from blonde to dark brown/black for all hair types.

This treatment is best suited for anyone who doesn’t feel their brows need shaping but is great for adding more depth to the brows. It is a great option for covering grey hairs or altering the colour of the natural brows.

A simple Eyebrow shape:

Lasts- 4-6 weeks (depending on clients hair growth)
Treatment time- 15 minutes
Cost- £8- £12
Minimum age- 13
Patch test required- no

An eyebrow shape can be performed using various techniques or a couple of techniques combined. This usually depends on your therapists’ preferred technique. They may choose to wax, thread, or tweeze your eyebrows with the main aim being to tidy around the edges of your natural brow shape, creating a neater more flattering appearance.

This treatment is perfect for anyone already happy with the colour of their brows but would like their brows tidying up into a nice shape.

The combined Eyebrow shape & tint:

Lasts- 4-6 week
Treatment time- 20 minutes
Cost- £15
Minimum age- 16
Patch test required- yes

Both a shape and tint is perfect for anyone that is already happy with the general shape of their brows but just needs a tidy and a tint for more depth to their brows.

This is also perfect for anyone who has had semi-permanent eyebrows and wants to keep the shape nice and tidy as well as the tint refreshing them a bit.

HD brows:

Lasts- 4-6 week
Treatment time- 45-60 minutes
Cost- £25
Minimum age- 16
Patch test required- yes

This is a more complex version of a shape and tint – a 7 step process in which the eyebrows are mapped out in a style that would sit best for the clients face taking into consideration the clients preferences on colour, the thickness of their brows and how they like their arch etc. A tint is a custom blended to suit the client, hairs are then trimmed, waxed, threaded and tweezed to get the brows in a precise, crisp shape. Depending on whether or not the client would like, the brow can then finished off by filling any sparse areas in with makeup.

This treatment is perfect for clients who are looking to grow their own eyebrows by having them perfectly shaped by a professional. We would recommend a course of 4-5 treatments 4-6 weeks apart with no home tweezing in between for optimum results. It’s also a great option for people wanting to have perfectly defined eyebrows without looking too heavy. It’s a great way to pick up tips from your therapist on how to pencil or powder your own eyebrows to maintain your look in between appointments.

Henna Brows:

Tint lasts 2-4 weeks on skin / 4-6 weeks on hair.
Treatment time- 45-60 minutes
Cost- £35
Minimum age- 16
Patch test required- yes

Being a similar treatment to HD this treatment will create that perfect shape however the henna can leave the desired stain on the skin as well as the hair which is perfect for anyone wanting to make their brows appear a bit thicker and fuller. Henna is an all-natural product and is a great conditioning treatment for the skin and hair around the brow area, it can restore brow growth by up to 60%, and is suitable for anyone with psoriasis.

Henna brows are perfect for anyone that loves their eyebrows darker, fuller and perfectly defined. It is also great for anyone who may have had a reaction to a regular tint patch test as they may find they don’t react to the henna patch test and therefore can have their brows tinted with the henna brow treatment.

Microblading/Semi-permanent Makeup

Lasts- 9-18 months (depending on each individual)
Treatment time- 2 hours
Cost- £350-£400
Minimum age- 18
Patch test required- yes

Microblading or semi-permanent makeup is a treatment whereby pigment is implanted into the upper dermal layer of the skin to mimic hair strokes or a natural powdered look, using a hand-held tool with a number of very fine needles, or the digital machine for different effects.

This long-lasting treatment is perfect for those who want to fully reshape, define or fill in gaps from over plucking, but don’t have the time, patience or ability to pencil or powder their brows daily. When filling in gaps or adding to an existing shape, the results can be extremely natural and undetectable. When completely reconstructing an eyebrow, shading techniques may need to be combined with microblading to achieve the desired look. Regular eyebrow maintenance procedures are recommended, a simple shape and tint is a perfect option for this.
