Why book a Laser Lightening session before a Colour Boost?
Permanent makeup is designed to fade gradually over time, but it doesn’t always fade completely or evenly.
After several years and multiple colour boosts, pigment can begin to build up in the skin. The brows may still have a lovely shape, but the remaining colour can become too saturated, cool, warm or dense to achieve the soft, natural result we want from the next treatment.
In these cases, adding more pigment isn’t always the best answer.
Sometimes, the most beautiful result comes from taking a step back first and gently lightening the existing pigment with laser.
Why can’t we simply add more colour?
Every time permanent makeup is refreshed, a small amount of new pigment is implanted into the skin. Over time, this can create layers of colour.
If the existing pigment is too dark or saturated, adding more pigment may make the brows look heavier rather than fresher. It can also restrict the changes we can make to the shape or colour.
Laser lightening gives us a cleaner canvas to work on. It doesn’t necessarily mean completely removing your brows. In many cases, we only need to reduce the old pigment enough to create a softer, more natural result.
Can one laser session really make a difference to my microbladed eyebrows?
Yes, it can.
Every client and pigment will respond differently, so results can never be guaranteed. However, many of my own clients have experienced fantastic lightening after just one carefully performed laser session.
The before-and-after photographs included here show genuine results following a single treatment.
For some clients, one session creates enough lightening for us to move forward with their colour boost. Others may need further lightening, depending on the pigment, its depth, how many previous treatments they have had and the result they would like to achieve. This will always be assessed individually.
The results below show the brows pre laser treatment and 3 minutes later post laser treatment. This is a true reflection of how the skin and brows can look immediately after 1 session of laser lightening

What is the downtime like with laser brow lightening?
For most clients, the downtime is minimal. The area may initially look pale or frosted and can feel slightly warm or tender. Some redness, swel
ling, sensitivity or light crusting can also occur as the skin heals.
Many clients feel comfortable returning to their normal routine very quickly. Brow pencil can usually be worn from the following day, provided the skin is intact and healing normally, and the aftercare advice given at your appointment is followed.
Individual healing responses do vary, so we will explain exactly what to expect and how to care for your brows.
When can I have my colour boost?
We allow a full 12 weeks after laser treatment before performing permanent makeup again.
Although the surface of the skin may appear settled much sooner, the skin and pigment continue to change beneath the surface. Allowing the full healing period helps us assess the true result and gives us the best possible foundation for your next treatment.
How much does laser lightening cost?
Laser lightening is £60 per session. Existing Rebecca Jaynes permanent makeup clients receive a 50% discount, making the cost £30 per session.
If your brows would benefit from laser before your next colour boost, we will explain why and discuss the result we believe it could help us achieve. There is never any pressure to proceed.
Will my colour boost need another appointment?
Brows that have previously been lasered can sometimes benefit from an additional perfecting appointment after the colour boost. This allows us to assess how the pigment has healed and refine any areas that need a little more colour.
If required, a post-laser perfecting retouch is £50.
Our usual colour boost is £200, with an optional perfecting retouch available for £75 when needed.
Is laser a sign that my permanent makeup has gone wrong?
Not at all.
Permanent makeup is a long-term relationship with your skin. Your colouring, preferences and natural features can change, while older pigment gradually fades and alters over time.
Recommending laser doesn’t mean that your previous treatment was unsuccessful. It means we’re looking at the long-term condition of your brows and choosing the approach most likely to give you a beautiful result for years to come.
The response from my clients has been incredibly positive. Many have told me how glad they were that they chose to lighten their old pigment rather than continuing to cover it with more colour.
Sometimes, one small step backwards gives us the space to create a much softer and more flattering result going forward.
If you’re unsure whether your brows are ready for a straightforward colour boost or would benefit from lightening first, please get in touch or book a consultation. We can assess your existing pigment and recommend the most appropriate next step for you.
